Type of Data Stored, Purpose, and Legal Basis
Handling of Personal Data
Personal data includes information that can identify an individual, such as names, email addresses, matriculation numbers, or phone numbers. It also includes preferences, hobbies, memberships, and visited websites.
We collect, use, and pass on personal data only if legally permitted or with user consent.
The processing of student data for study-related purposes is based on the Hessian Higher Education Law in conjunction with the Matriculation Regulation of the region of Hesse and relates to EU GDPR Article 6 Section 1 c).
Access Data/Server Log Files
When accessing this website, the following data are stored:
- IP address
- Date and time
- Browser type
- URL of the visited page
- Error messages (if applicable)
- Requesting provider (if applicable)
This data is used exclusively for functionality, security, and error correction and is based on EU GDPR Article 6 Section 1 f). All log files are deleted or anonymized within seven days.
Getting in Touch
If you contact us (e.g., by email or contact form), your provided information is stored to process your inquiry. Once your inquiry is resolved and legal obligations are fulfilled, the data is deleted unless retention is necessary.
Cookies
Cookies store specific information on your access device (PC, smartphone, etc.). They enhance user experience but can be disabled in browser settings. However, logging in requires cookies. These are deleted after the session ends.
Other Personal Data
Registration
Users can create an account, and necessary details are collected for service provision. Users may be informed of service-related changes via their provided contact details.
Upon account deletion, the relevant data is deleted unless retention is required by legal obligations (§ 6, clause 1 lit. c GDPR).

- Personal data: First name, family name, age, gender, academic background
- Tandem requests: Frequency, language level, topics
- Tandem activities: Time of calls, messages, exchanged documents and links (calls themselves are not stored)
- Self-recorded learning and teaching activities for certification purposes
Purpose and Period of Data Storage
Your personal data is stored only as long as necessary for its intended purpose or as required by legal regulations. Data is deleted or locked when no longer needed.
Involvement of Third-Party Services
Users can include third-party content (e.g., YouTube videos, charts, links). This requires providers to recognize your IP address. We only use providers that limit data usage to content delivery, but we cannot control their further data processing.
Analytical Services (Use of Matomo/Piwik)
This website uses Matomo (formerly Piwik) for web analysis. Matomo uses cookies to analyze website usage. The information generated is anonymized and not shared with third parties.
